Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I was going to a very nice resort in Malaysia, and I wanted some time to acclimate to the time zone so I didn't waste a day there just getting 'sleep aligned'. Since the resort was a Ritz, I looked at the Ritz Carlton in Kuala Lumpur as an appetizer and an after stay wind down to avoid the shock of going from luxury to the real world. Baby steps of preparing for 34 hour flight back.

Arrival

I took the train from KUL airport to KL Sentral station, then the subway to Bukit Bintang station. Then walked the sidewalks with my rollers to the Starhill Mall, and through the mall to the raised walkway to the Ritz. It was a bit much with roller luggage to do this.

The Room

I had booked a room that included the Ritz Lounge, and when I arrived, I was upgraded to a "Junior Suite". It is only called Junior because it's smaller than the bigger suite. It is a full suite, and quite good.

Dining and Drinking

Two primary restaurants, and one bar, plus a very selective dining place for Sunday Roast. The dining is Li Yen, a Michelin Chinese affair, which is really good, and the Cobalt Room, which is a more international buffet style and only open for breakfast. Now drinks! I have gone to The Lobby Lounge before, and it's a lovely calm place for tea and you know, mixed drinks. The Library is only open Sunday for a Sunday Roast. It's a British thing. I didn't get to eat there.

Ritz Carlton Club

A Ritz Club! Yes, and a very good one. Food in the morning, during the day, and at night. And you know what else at night? Drinks! All in a private wing of the hotel.

Hotel Amenities

So, as a Ritz, it seems a spa is standard. Check. A pool? Yep, check. Gym? Yes again. A cigar room? Ok, yes, but this is not normal.
They know to butter up the elite members well With the club lounge, I didn't need this, except the coffee at 3am while in meetings Managers making sure I knew, they knew, I was there Chinese deliciousness Incredible, flavorful meal Breakfast at Cobalt, but you won't be blue eating here Pretty large space, and it goes back beyond that The food is the center of the world here French toast sticks, tasty and sugary Multitudes of juice ready, no waiting Delicious Malaysian roti Specialized coffee, open most of the day So many seats, and not one bar stool, because that would not be refined Club seating Club hot food in the morning As you enter, you see all the options Dinner of Chicken Perrcik and potatoes with leeks Yes, more roti for Rob Sweets, but I was fat and not deserving Signature cocktails in the lounge And I had the Ritz Fizz, which was smooth and delicious The pool warm, sunny at times (tall buildings around do impact that), and really seemed underused Mostly weights and resistance. I am happy with that The spa, because one must have these things Waiting here, phasing you in slowly as you adjust and begin to relax This is where your back will be cracked, or feet fixed, or other muscle and skin treatments The tea is apparently famous here, so you can buy the experience and take it home

Summary

Excellent, away from the hustle of Bukit Bintang but close enough to just pop over. Connected to StarHill mall (they own that and the JW Marriott too). Classic old school vibes, attention to detail beyond belief.

As I always say in a Ritz with a Club Lounge, pay up for it and enjoy it.
