Hilton, Nottingham England

I've met a lot of friends from around the world through gaming online on cooperative type games. As you may have noticed by reading here, I go to London a lot and my friend David in Nottingham kept saying coming up. Finally, I did! But in the process, I needed to find a place to stay, which is when I found that the Hilton downtown Nottingham was perfectly placed and exceptionally reasonable.

Arrival

I took the train from St. Pancras station, which was a pretty chilly affair that time of year, up to Nottingham. There was massive flooding going about in the midlands of England and I was a bit concern about the trip up. The waters had receded enough for my train to go directly on its original path but you could see the inundation of many areas as you glided up north from London.

I got to the station and hailed a taxi. Even though the street car system *would* have worked, I wasn't quite up to navigating it that day, and a cab was cheap.

The Room

I arrived around check-in time, and I had gotten what I could see online was the largest room available. It's labeled as a suite, but it's more of a junior suite as you can see below. Still quite a nice room in this old train station administration building turned hotel.

Dining

There is the lobby bar as well as the Bric which also has a bar. I didn't drink there but did have breakfast which was delightful with a pretty insane amount of diversity.

Amenities

The hidden surprise in this hotel is the fitness center and pool. It's really large, and well, kinda busy (which makes it hard for me where I try to take shots without people in them, or at least faces). But wow it is really significant, all hidden in the basement, plus a spa.
I'm not sure this is to scale, I didn't see bigger rooms existing Looks small, but they service the place well Not only did I get free drink vouchers, it was 2 for 1 also during my visit Breakfast starts with Juice. Lots of it For those inclined, yogurts and milk for the cereals plus an automatic pancake machine Breads and jams Cold cuts and fruit English breakfast area I don't think this seems like something that would be a big hit Real meats and Porridge (think oatmeal) Grains, healthier, and well, I rarely use them. I know... I'm not that healthy The Cardio spot Weights, and resistance machines Weights specific room Large pool, and well heated during the winter

Summary

In the heart of the nightlife of Nottingham. Things can get quite energized in the bar (saw a pretty large police operation that had several people coming in there to avoid them) but everyone just sat in their seats and watched while drinking.
Nice cozy hotel, with a just great buffet in the morning which is worth the wait if it's full.
Impressive main staircase from before elevator days
