W Hotel, Edinburgh Scotland
I was in Edinburgh just for the sheer fact I had not been here before. I had heard wonderous reviews of the W here and had a large free night certificate to utilize literally within days of expiration. Also, I had a few Marriott Nightly Upgrade Awards, so I applied those to the available rooms on the gamble I would be approved. Well, read on for that story to progress.Arrival
I was staying at the Edinburgh Hilton earlier in the week and I walked myself and my bags the 1/4 mile between hotels with a 100 foot vertical change in ground level also. Very hilly city for sure, but going downhill over High Bridge was almost effortless. I arrived and easily made my way to the lobby. Since I'd received email confirmation 2 days before that I'd been upgraded to the Wow suite upgrade (the 2nd biggest room in the entire hotel), I was most anxious to see what all the hubbub was about surrounding the property. The Room
I had gotten to the hotel a little early, because I had a lot of pictures to take, and was genuinely excited to see this room. Luckily, the suite was available, and I was personally brought up by the front desk to seriously such an astounding suite, I was absolutely at a loss for words.
Please, feel free to look all around this stunning room. Wow is definitely the effect, not just the name.
Dining
2 floors of dining and drinking (three maybe? The storm of all badness was hitting that night so the roof was closed). SushiSamba is definitely the main event for dining, with all kinds of delicious and amazing food, plus the breakfast. W Lounge has small bites, so so many drinks and those fancy semi private areas of seating for your friends and that unobtainable anywhere else bottle of champagne. Joao's Place is an intimate musical-themed delight of cocktails and sound.Amenities
So, no swimming pool, but a well appointed spa that I just didn't have time (or pocketbook) to experience, and a very nice gym that has an outdoor feeling and very spacious areas.
Welcome drink from the lobby bar that only serves welcome drinks
An interesting auditorium feature on the way to the other tower
The floor of the elevator, which is quite freaky when drunk
At least I know where I am, loudly
So so so much room
Endless options for drinking
Very excellent travel necessities, and the best razor I have seen in a hotel room
The good stuff for your face and hands
For your drinking pleasure
Cute snacks, but you want to eat at SushiSamba
The W Lounge, definitely a busy afternoon bar
It has many faces from casual to full on night party
Pop those corks
The main bar in the W Lounge where it's easier to mingle
My choice of drink that day
Very fancy menu
And not egregious prices
The main event for dining here
Sushi's bar, dark, elegant, good for old ugly guys like me
Full on crisp presentation from moment one
Peppered squid is a great start
And of course rare steaks, juicy, tender
The almost hidden, Joao's Place, a record bar, and at night, almost impossible to get a seat
In the other tower, the gym is there
About a 50-50 mix of cardio to weight, I'll take it
Bar or leisure space? W Deck on the top floor, open during non-inclement nights
