Marriott Brisbane
While flying around Australia for a month, I was on my way to Brisbane, then Gold Coast, but needed a few hotels to stay at until I went down there. While it was not the cheapest option, the Marriott Brisbane looked really nice, so I stayed there for a night. Not near downtown, but it was the type of stay I wanted.
Arrival
I had just landed in Brisbane that day from Sydney. I decided I was not going to take the train into the city, and hailed a cab from the airport. First time I had done this, and it's a rather pricey option, but I wasn't going to screw around with the hills in the city. I also was getting close to time to log in for work that night (I worked remote a lot, USA hours), so I needed a little more expedient transportation. The Room
Well, no suites for Rob this stay, but I was put on the Executive Floor, which is the same room as normal, just on the floor with the lounge.
Virtual room tour, use your mouse or fingers to move around and see other rooms.
Facilities
So an open air pool, which I didn't use as it was winter in Australia, but the hot tub did give me pause. A sauna, and of course the multi exercise gym.The Executive Lounge
It's a dark lounge, but man, they put out a good spread. Service and offerings were exceptional, and it was not busy.Dining
One bar and dining spot, Motion. But it's definitely a full-service place. The bar was about 50% at night and dead during the day. The restaurant was very light during lunch.
One room of many like me
Lovely bottle of wine from the Manager, Australia treats status pretty well too
Suite level amenities
Hand lotion, blurry
The Marriott standard
Coffee culture wins
Plus tea and drinking glasses
Australia is a cardio land
Nice pool, great view"
Acceptable warmth on a cold day
Do you know the password?
Pretty large space
Breakfast buffet, part of it.
Congee and porridge (oatmeal)
Pastries, but no chocolate croissants this day
Eggs, bangers and fried potatoes
Din din time!
Tomato soup, definitely untried by Rob
The wine, but I had to work, so... poor me
Many hot things
Salads and cold cuts
The bar, get a drink damnit
Entrance to the food
Very good wine selection and ugly blogger in the reflection
This was exceptionally tasty and they didn't curse me for asking for ketchup
Motion lunch menu
Outside bar/dining spaces. I think mostly for beer and chatting
Summary
This is a good hotel. The exec lounge was great. The dining was good too. The bar... well I have responsibilities at times that require me not being drunk, so I cannot comment. They do their best to take care of people with Marriott status. I really liked it and wish it was more in the target price range I shoot for. Not near a lot of things, which actually can be a benefit for peace and quiet.
Is the lounge worth the upcharge or room that includes it? Hmmm. Do you like just sitting with food and drink all around and want to spend a couple hours there? Yes, then it is. Otherwise, I am not so sure without the fielder's choice of breakfast in the lounge or downstairs included.
