West Curio Collection, Sydney

As part of my trip through Australia, I was in Sydney for the last few days before flying home and wanted to check out a different hotel. Luckily, I found a really attractive rate at the West Hotel near, well basically everything. This area by Darling Harbor is much more laid back than the party life of George Street.

Arrival

So... I walked from the Sydney Hilton to the West with my bags, making a couple of trips because I always want to look like a horrible tourist. Not really, but I couldn't stomach paying for a cab when I needed to work off some weight anyway. It was about a 7 minute walk and I didn't even get strange stares.

The Room

I believe this is a standard king room. Top floor though, which nowadays is considered an upgrade (ugh right?).

The Suite

On my most recent visit, I was offered a bit of a sweetheart deal on a suite (They don't upgrade to them for Diamonds, you gotta buy it) so... I took it.

Facilities

It's not a resort or a business hotel; it's a getaway hotel, and the facilities are as such.

Dining

One bar, and one restaurant, Solander. It's a pretty decent place, and right in line with the more mature crowd. Good food, breakfast buffet (because I love those). Hours seem to be a tad selective at times.

Looks like there might be a bigger room on the end, but seems this is the size they have Now in new luxurious wood So this is misleading, the suite looks the same size on the floorplan but is really the two rooms on the left, hence my confusion staying here before I was down to just 100 toothbrushes, so good to stock up Coffee cups, all important for the overnight worker, me! The breakfast buffet, here we go English items, like baked beans, large slices of backmeat bacon, Cumberland sausages I usually start out really light, then go back and get more Mmmm, the bar! Good selections of spirits and wines While I was actually drinking at it (Buffalo Trace is their well bourbon!) In the suite, the minibar is complimentary

Summary

As a getaway style hotel, it feels that it's designed for walking around Darling Harbor with the light fare and shopping around there. Very pleasant, clean and comfortable stay. Curio hotels tend to be a bit "off the mainstream" themselves, and this property really struck me as your base to explore this area of Sydney.
