Highland Curio Dallas

I was staying for a few days in Dallas to meet up with travel friends and to drink - as is our habit. Since I was going to be in the area for 5 days, I split up my stays to get a couple hotels shot and posted.

Since I am already a fan of Curios, I looked around Dallas and found The Highland Curio for a very reasonable rate, and well, of course I booked it.

Arrival

I took the Dallas DART train system to half a block from the hotel. Crossing the streets was interesting but I could have used the pedestrian bridge also. Lesson learned. Traffic is always insane in Dallas, so while you can get a car, I try to avoid it myself.

The Room

I was able to garner a full suite upgrade. It's labeled as accessible, but man, it was the nicest "accessible" room I have ever seen.

Dining

The Reserve is the dining and drinking spot in the hotel. I found the bar nice, but not very conducive to conversations (and being next to a Methodist university it's not used much, but sometimes, that bar alone time is wanted). The restaurant though, just wow. 120 day aged steaks?!?! Amazing food. I needed more time in it, but didn't get it with all my evening engagements.

Amenities

Excellent pool, decent gym. Nice public spaces for sure. It feels very relaxing all over the property, which I am guessing was the intent.
Biggest room? Yes it is Curios get to pick what bath amenities they want The mini bar full of snacks Rumor has it the local college kids ask the alcohol to be removed (the horror) Competent and well stocked bar Killer omelets with excellent potatoes My mainstay, over easy, mmmm The Reserve breakfast menu The Reserve dinner menu I shall start with the lobster bisque But finish with the filet. Not a wrong choice to be made The Reserve bar menu My roast beef sandwich for lunch. The flavor still hits me now in memory The Reserve lunch menu" Aging that meat 3 months Outdoor even seating The hot tub, required in the temps I found in Feb The pool in chillout style If you forgot something, chances are it's here or you don't really need it Free, pretty decent, coffee in the morning The lobby seating, very cazh Mostly used waiting for rides Real weights, and machines, I was pleased On the way to the pool, looks really cool In between conference seating, I made an exception here to shoot this

Summary

This is a really nice hotel. It was quiet, and dining was excellent. My room very large and well kept up. Sure, it looks like the 80s in several areas but it doesn't feel like the 80s. Awesome place to just kick back and forget you have to work for a living at some point.
